Electives
Select 4 credits of elective courses
offered by the MPE Program. These credits may include additional
hours of Independent Study (beyond the required 6 credit hours) or
other courses listed by the program, such as courses in the
WUSM Mentored
Training Program in Clinical Investigation.
Manuscript Requirement
Completion of this program requires that the student be first author of a paper that meets the requirements of a
journal and results in the submission of the manuscript for peer
review. The students prepare for this by contributing to grant
proposals being drafted by faculty members, by reviewing journal
articles submitted to faculty for review, by critiquing papers
prepared by fellow students and faculty, and by collaborating on
papers with faculty members. Opportunities for meeting the
manuscript requirement are strong because the faculty is made
up of persons who publish, have major research funding, and serve on
the editorial boards of most of the major journals in the field of
psychiatric epidemiology and substance abuse.
