Arbi Ben Abdallah

Arbi Ben Abdallah, Ph.D. (ABD from Washington University in Economics) is a Research Statistician / Economist. He has been with the Epidemiology and Prevention Research Group (EPRG) since March 17, 1994.

His academic background is in mathematical modeling and statistical methods and he acquired extensive research experience from working on different projects with multi-disciplinary research teams both in the USA and abroad. Since he joined the EPRG, he has been working primarily with Dr. Cottler on complex longitudinal studies of HIV behaviors among drug abusers. Also, he has actively interacted with other investigators located at different sites on various research projects.

In his current position, Arbi is mainly responsible for all research design methodologies, data analysis and study results interpretation. He has also participated in writing for publication in journals and presentation in conferences. Additionally, he has been involved in the management of the EPRG databases, including the design and implementation of a number of database systems as well as the maintenance, updating and safeguarding of all project data. His major contribution to the EPRG has been the use of cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analysis as a yardstick to evaluate and compare alternative HIV prevention intervention programs.

Arbi’s efforts earned him the 2003 Dean’s Distinguished Service Award.  The award is given to Medical School staff employees who consistently exceed their job responsibilities by displaying outstanding service.
