Carlos Zubaran, M.D.

Dr. Carlos Zubaran is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Blacktown Hospital and a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Medicine of the University of Western Sydney, Australia.

 

Born in Brazil, Dr. Zubaran graduated at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS in Porto Alegre, the southernmost State capital. After obtaining his specialty in Psychiatry and a PhD in Biological Sciences, Dr. Zubaran developed postdoctoral programs at the Institute of Psychiatry in London (Behavioural Pharmacology), at Columbia University (Substance Use) and Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Cultural Psychiatry) in New York.

 

Dr. Zubaran was the recipient of the CAPES International Postgraduate Scholarship, the Brazilian National Research Council International Postgraduate Scholarship and the World Psychiatric Association International Fellowship Award.  Dr. Zubaran authored more than forty publications including scientific manuscripts and abstracts, chapters of book and articles in the media.

 

Dr. Zubaran is the 2009 recipient of National Institute of Drug Abuse Distinguished International Scientist Award (DISCA).  With his DISCA award, Dr. Zubaran is working with the EPRG to develop projects for collaborative research between Australia and the United States.

 

A surfer, tennis player and soccer fan, Dr. Zubaran lives in the Sydney and collaborates frequently with research groups in his Brazil.
