Matthew Smith, PhD


Matthew J. Smith, Ph.D. is an NIMH
post-doctoral fellow. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Psychology
and a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, he received his Ph.D. is Social Welfare from the
University of Wisconsin at Madison. While completing his dissertation, he
volunteered at a local community support program where he provided mental
health services to adults with severe mental illnesses living in the
community.
Matthew is currently working with John
Csernansky, M.D. on a project examining the differences in cognition and
personality between siblings and their brothers and sisters with
schizophrenia.
Dr. Smith will also pursue his interests in
researching how the experience of having a brother or sister with a
serious mental illness shapes the development of siblings across their
life course.
