Chiquitia Welch, PhD


Chiquitia Welch, PhD
is a NIDA-funded post-doctoral trainee. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University she earned a Master
of Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master
of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve
University. She spent several years working in public agencies and
organizations before completing her doctorate in Social Work from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her dissertation research
study examined the psychosocial profiles of serious female juvenile
offenders with and without a substance use disorder.
Chiquitia is
currently working with Linda Cottler, PhD, MPH on a research project
examining psychosocial risk and protective profiles of female problem
drinkers associated with sexual risk behaviors. Chiquitia’s other research
interests include the co-occurring behaviors of substance abuse and
delinquency among girls, and substance-related and criminal justice
related health disparities among African American girls and women.
