Dr. Luby is an Associate Professor of
Psychiatry (Child) at Washington University School of Medicine
in St. Louis, MO. She is also the founder and director of the
Washington University School of Medicine Early Emotional
Development Program (EEDP). The EEDP focuses on the study and
treatment of affective disorders and in particular depression in
preschool age children. Dr. Luby’s clinical and research focuses
more broadly on all areas of infant/preschool psychopathology
and nosology and the social/emotional development of young
children.
Dr. Luby’s contributions to the field include the first work on
the development of research diagnostic criteria for depressive
syndromes in the preschool age group. She has also conducted
research on treatments and medications for early onset Autistic
Spectrum Disorders, and is currently conducting a study the
treatment of early age mania.
Dr. Luby is the director of residency training
in child and adolescent psychiatry at Washington University School of
Medicine. In 2002, Dr. Luby was awarded the Joseph Fischoff, M.D. Honorary
Lectureship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from Wayne State
University. Dr. Luby is a member of the World Association for Infant
Mental Health Disciplines (WAIMH) and currently serves on the infancy
committee of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and
serve on a national workgroup on classification of mental disorders in
young children. Dr. Luby has published extensively in numerous general and
child psychiatric journals and serves on the editorial board for the
Bipolar Disorders Journal.
